I tried dances, and formals, I cannot find myself to enjoy them, as they are too loud and crowded. I am just the type of person who likes small dances. I also hate dancing.

I dislike dancing also.

Not sure what you mean by a 'formal'... but I did go to informal social gatherings as a youth. I do not think I'd be too comfortable going to anything formal... beyond meetings.

I used to figureskate and currently ballroom dance, but I think those were/are more of an obsession than anything else.  (I'm more into the theory and practice, not the social aspect).  I patently did not enjoy the school socials.

School and Uni balls are good for school/club participation and wearing dresses made of amazing-feeling materials, and using the excuse of being drunk (even though I'm not) to make up for strange but exhilarating behaviour such as spinning in a huge pink satin dress.  Otherwise I would not enjoy a ball either.

I've never been to a small dance.  Do my ballroom dance classes count?  They're very small - low-key hall with dusty floors and about 3 couples + teacher concentrating hard...

I often opted out of going to many such a social event. And I usually regretted not going also...Which is odd considering the few times I did go I regretted not not going.

I have been to some, usually it was just an excuse for other girls to gang up on me, so I can't say I'm a fan of them.

For the end of the uni course I just completed there was a party organised. I was asked if I was going and I said no. There was to be alcohol, loud music and a spa.... no way could I go to that. I was told that I was a wuss for opting out but I stood my ground. But now I am wondering how the party went.

Would you call a roller derby afterparty/fundraiser a formal?
