Hello!

This is my1st official post in this forum! Grin I want to start by saying I think you are absolutely lovely and doing a good job all around! I'm a designer in the States, self-diagnosed for the past 6 years. Reflecting back on my life, I'm positive I'm on the spectrum. I want to go for official diagnosis, but I'm leery about punitive doctors telling me it's all in my head, or that I'm responding to a psychiatric "fad."

How old were you when diagnosed? Was it a long, expensive process of tests? Was it simply a doctor agreeing that you were having problems and waved a magic wand of sorts?
(Sound of magic in the air: "I hear by proclaim you to be an Asperger's Girl!")

An official diagnosis won't afford me extra medical benefits, or make my life run easier, but it might put closure on the subject. Your thoughts..?

Cheers!

Thanks. Well done, btw. I was around 13 years old. I went at first to talk to a councillor about my severe OCD. After months and months of councilling sessions, the psychologist took notes about everything that was talked about, and referred me to a psychiatrist. I had several sessions with him, eventually he diagnosed me and found me a suitable medication.

It wasn't a quick process, not for me, anyway.

Thank you loads for your insight. It doesn't sound like an easy process! Did you have to take any assessment tests, or was it based entirely on doctors judgement based on your sessions..?
