Hmm this is quite subjective.  I always thought socio-economic class was a social construct?

Although, MissNewZealand, I come from New Zealand and we are a central sort of social state so there is a far smaller gap between the so-called "rich" and "poor" compared with perhaps Victorian England.  Even comparing private and public schools (having attended both myself), I don't think the distinction between them is clearly demarcated, enough for me to classify myself in any one class.

Does that answer the question? Cheesy

There is one glaring trouble with this poll. Class has nothing to do with money, not the possession nor the aquiring of it.

I'm upper middle class, but that's 'cause my parents know to cut down on luxuries.

Having a closer look at some of those categories...  My apologies for being perfectly geeky and technical, but isn't the "upper class" (at least, as far as it's defined by the feudal system) royalty?  We don't TYPICALLY have true royalty in most parts of the western world - although there are some of course.

To get some sense... where does Paris Hilton fit in, relative to the queen of England?

As a youth, upper middle class. As my own bread winner, lower middle class and often dirt poor.

I thought class was a NT thing. Its all to do with the 'power' of emotion isnt it? I mean where people's emotions control situations, I've always thought that a tramp is a tramp because their emotional structures have been demolished by other people's emotional structures. I see my self as 'non-class' but that is because i do not want to be part of a silly NT game

I'll say it again. 'Class' has nothing to do with wealth (or lack of it) or emotion or being NT... class is to do with upbringing and self-identification within a social structure.

Can you elaborate on that?

I think, at least in the UK, class is determined more from your family background, Education, and the type of occupation you have. John Prescott (an MP) considers himself working class even though he is a very wealthy man, for instance. I consider myself Middle Class even though I have a modest background, and am not particularly well off. I think it is more to do with an outlook on life in relation to Society.

Of course an MP would say he's "Working Class". He wants to identify with and be identified by the working class so as to remain popular with the larger portion of Britain's population. That's how politics works.

Class is Social Standing. Sure I identify more with the middle class, as that was my upbringing, but I'm closer to the lower class in financial standing. And finances are very important to society in determining your worth to society. It's unjust and it's wrong, but hey, that's society.
