I don't know if it's just me or with AS in general, but I read some whare that it can effect sleep patterns, and for some reason tonight I just can't seem to fall asleep. I took some benedrill to see if that could help me feel sleepy, but it has not done any thing.......yet! anywho do any of you ever have any trouble with it?

There are a variety of meds that can be used for sleep that don't fall into any controlled substance category. Antipsychotics, some antidepressants, some blood pressure meds, and a few others I can't think of off the top of my head can be used to help with sleep. I have such a problem with getting hooked on the controlled substance class meds (even though I use them properly) that my psychiatrist won't use those anymore either but she is still able to help me with my sleep cycle.

Hey Jeff,

I've had trouble sleeping since Jr High. I'm 34 now. I had a session with a neurofeedback monitor. It studied my brainwave output.

People show different wavelengths when doing different things. When you read, close your eyes, watch TV, it shows certain levels of activity.

It showed that my right side brain was on overdrive. Perhaps like yourself, I'm always processing information. When I closed my eyes, my brain activity shot up as if I was watching a movie. Most neurotypicals show lower levels of activity when they shut their eyes.

When I try to fall asleep, I'm thinking about new things and new ways to build things. I'm trying to figure out a way of thinking about calm things, like sitting on a beach or something.

Hope this helps,

Robert
