When I was travelling, I met some Australians, and they introduced me to a curious product - salted yeast extract known as Vegemite. I was the only non-Australian in the group that liked it. So I wonder if any of you Aussies or Kiwis or anyone else like it too? And what ways of eating it do you know other than spreading it on bread?

Vegemite is an Australian staple. Vegemite on toast is simply part of our cuisine

I've never had it. Sounds pretty good though.

Same colour but that is about all they have in common! Have never liked Nutella, I don't like hazelnut flavoured things. If it was chocolate I would eat it.

I LOVE Vegemite! It was one of my big passions. I first heard about it in a Men At Work song, and an Australlian friend gave me some. I later started mail ordering it from Down Under and eventually found stores in the KC and Lawrence, KS areas that sold it. What sucks though is, Australia stopped shipping it to the U.S. Darn! Australia was a big passion of mine long ago (but I do like Aussie football; we have a team right here in KC), later it was Japan (and I even took a trip there. FUN!) and now it's Canada. You know, I could start eating Marmite more...it sounds like it would be a good GFCF staple. Just put it on something other than bread!

I bloody love the siht best served on toast with a fried egg, bacon and a side of baked beans. There are rumours that it is made from the gunk that accumulates at the bottom of beer vats. Completely untrue. It is actually fermented cow's hooves.

I'm for marmite. Nutella is awesome, too. Put it in toasties with banana.

I really like Vegemite, but I can rarely afford it. I had Marmite once. I didn't really like it that much.
