I've always been told by my parents games are for children... but really, why should one stop liking video games because he/she isn't young anymore? We don't tell people to stop liking chocolate if they're older. I feel kinda embarassed playing games near my parents. They really think it's for kids. I love games so much there is no way i'll stop, imagine seeing a new zelda game and not playing it!   What are your opinions? |

I'm 25 and have been playing video games since I was 8....I imagine I'll be playing video games till I die.
They are a valid past time like TV, Movies, or Books. I don't think video games have ever really been a "childs toy", sure there are kids games and the first few generations were simplistic enough that anyone could play them, but they were and are made by adults and aimed at other like minded adults.
...I still love playing with Lego!

Video games aren't just for kids. Some games are targeted for kids, but other people can play them too. Whats the point in them making them, if it's not okay to play them?

Not true. I play mostly "T" games (except for "CSI" and "Jackass". Those are "M").

I'm 24 and still play video games. I mostly like old school games but there are a few newer games I like. I like games that challenge me.

I remember when the Simpsons first started being broadcast where I live. I knew this 14 year old whose parents would not let him watch it because it was for adults, and a married couple who argued because the wife wanted to watch it and the husband refused on the basis that it was for kids.
So far as games go, to me the notion of them all being for children makes as much sense as suggesting the same of books, movies, television shows, magazines. In all these genres, some items are for children and some are obviously not for children.
I love video/computer games (mind you, I also enjoyed the Harry Potter series and I've heard those are for children too).

The change in rating (for the Simpsons) is an interesting example of changes in societal attitudes. It's also an example of why the notion 'X is for children' is flawed. Neither children nor the original (once adults only but now G) episodes have changed...
So I do not think people should worry if they enjoy activities associated (in someone's opinion) with children. Being 'an adult' is much more about attributes like attitude, than it is about attributes like what hobbies you enjoy.

Yep exactly what I was thinking. For example Family Guy would not have allowed to be aired so early in the past, and the Simpsons can get away with more things that would have not been allowed in the past also. |

I am 29 and I still play video games. I don't have the time to play as much as I would like, but I still find the time to play my Xbox360 and PC mostly.

Video games are made BY adults, and even kids' games can have a lot of references to things that only adults would understand.

If games were for kids then someone aught to inform blizzard entertainment that they are missing out on alot of dosh making their best deals for WOW credit card only lol. But i'm a big boy I grew out of that after 3 years... Now I spend my time with others such as supreme commander crysis and a few others

I'm 41 and have played games since I was about 3 or 4. The first things I played were electro mechanical arcade games at fair grounds and the like. This was in the days before Pong had reached the UK.
I still play games... new and old, and see no reason to stop.
Why stop doing something you enjoy, just because you get older? It doesn't stop being fun.
