I went into a bar the other day and the owner introduced me to a guy as an aspie. This person said that I could not be aspie as he was a teacher of asperger kids in the States and I didn't look aspie. After chatting to him for a while he admitted that I was. He told me that his kids looked more like geeks than me. Also I found out that he saw asperger people as mentally retarded. Overall I felt demoralised that someone in his position should know so little about AS.

and this is one of those that teach aspie kids here... and supopsed to help them realize their true potential? the teacher doesnt even know what...
now i feel worried for the well-being of these kids...

"Professionals" have been SO INCREDIBLY capricious that even some "experts" require some type of cognitive impairment besides social. NEVER MIND that the aspergers diagnosis SPECIFICALLY excludes that! (V) There is no clinically significant delay in cognitive development or in the development of age-appropriate self help skills, adaptive behavior (other than in social interaction) and curiosity about the environment in childhood.

Since AS used to NOT be seen as debilitating, classic autism people diagnosed as AS have not had the help they should have. This will just make things more confusing. But they are IDIOTS so, OF COURSE, you can't expect them to think of such things! |

I know a guy licensed to practice psychology in the State of New Jersey who thinks like that (and acted upon his thinking in a professional setting). He may or may not be so licensed after my complaint to the State Bd. of Psychological Examiners is resolved.

Hmm...aspies are idiots? excuse me...hee hee hee ha ha ha (falls of chair laughing)!!! WHAT the (BEEP)? Then why do most aspies when tested have an average IQ of 115? (I know, IQ tests are not accurate with aspies due to peaks and valleys on the subtests). But still, let me use myself as a counterexample. If all aspies are idiots, then there must not exist one whose IQ is above 100 - well, here I am! My IQ is above 100; therefore, his claim is invalid, and he should be hanged for it. Just kidding.

Some professionals look down at you especially if you have something that makes you stand out. They dont talk to you they talk down to you. Yes I will agree some aspies I have seen do look geeky and nerdy but some also look trendy and some look as normal as everybody else. But there are nt that dress weird, nerdy, trendy and the average joe.

this person was supposedly a teacher for aspies and he doesnt know jack - he thinks we are mentally retarded - what more for those who really have no idea about this, like the plain simple folks out there. they probably think were also like that or worse - theyve probably never even heard of the word aspergers syndrome - and would dismiss us as someone whos at the profound autism level(which is what you see in TV and movies)

I went to the bar to meet Fred (AS teacher) tonight and guess what, they had Rain Man on the tv. At the beginning they say that most autistics are unable to communicate. I thought that it was the other way around.
