Just wondered - does anyone else find their upper body muscles sort of tensing and convulsing when they yawn?  And then get goosebumps all over their arms when they finish yawning?

EDIT: I'm thinking sorta spasm type muscles.  I said convulsing earlier, but that sounds like seizure to me - it's not a brain thing, just head/neck/chest/arms muscles.

EDIT 2: Oh whoops, should this have been in the "Random" section?  Embarrassed

No it's fine here. Smiley

Do you mean twitching muscles or pain in them? Muscle spasms mean you're low in magnesuim.

Nope, no pain.  Hmm... Imagine tensing all your face and neck muscles and chest muscles all at the same time.  You end up sort of "convulsing."  I have a little head shake thrown into it as well, as if I've just tasted something really sour.  I never really thought about it, even though if it happens around other people they look at me with some concern and say, "You alright?"  It doesn't really worry me, it's just kind of weird. They could be tics.  Sometimes I just randomly shake my head and torso at random times, I don't really know why, but it's never happened in public. I tend to have some control over it, it's a weird thing to do though.

I think I know what you mean. It is like a yawn and a stretch at the same time that gives you shivers.

Yes, renaeden! Smiley i think that's it.  It doesn't seem like a tic because it only happens when yawning...?  That said, I don't really know what a tic is.

The yawning and shivering feeling is nice (to me) whereas tics are just a nuisance.

Tic:

Quote
A tic is a sudden, repetitive, nonrhythmic, stereotyped motor movement or vocalization involving discrete muscle groups.[1][2] Tics can be invisible to the observer, such as abdominal tensing or toe crunching. Common motor and vocal tics are, respectively, eye blinking and throat clearing.[3] Movements of other movement disorders (for example, chorea, dystonia, myoclonus) must be distinguished from tics. Other conditions like autism and stereotypic movement disorder also include movements which may be confused with tics. Tics must also be distinguished from compulsions of OCD and seizure activity.
