I referred a guy to this site telling him that the owner of this site, Fiona, is an Aussie. I quickly corrected myself when I remembered that she in fact isn't an Aussie and is actually from New Zealand.

I'm guessing that it's mostly the accent that makes me mix up people of both places.

Look at how similar the flags are. LOL

There are similarities, but they are definitely different. The first time I heard Ray Comfort, I had no idea where he was from. For the longest time, I wondered if he were South African or something.

For those who don't know Ray Comfort, he is a big televangelist in America. His Way of the Master ministry is very prominent on certain radio stations and other media outlets in the US. All you people complaining about the Americans coming to Australia and New Zealand to proselytize you? Well, fear not, Ray Comfort will avenge you.

Hope this last paragraph doesn't diverge from the topic too much.

I'm from Canada where people tend to have a very "neutral" accent, and I honestly even tend to mix up British and Australian accents.

Perhaps I have a good ear for accents, I'm not sure, but I would say the canadian accent is quite distinct. It has elements that actually sound a little like my own - Northern English.

I mix them up all the time. LOL Both of the accents are way cooler than the boring, neutral and preppy California accent that's everywhere in the English speaking media, though...

We have very distinct accents actually.  Aussie accents are a mixture of irish and english and kiwi accents are a mixture of english and scottish.  You can tell in the way we say fish and chips.  To aussies it sounds like "fush and chups" pen sounds like "pin" and six sounds like "sex" Tongue.  But our accents do have some similarities

Nah, I think i got em' sorted well enough.

Although I have wondered if Kiwi's are a particular subset of New Zealanders or it's just some slang term.

They're really similar for people who live outside Australasia.

TBH I can't really tell the difference between a US accent and a Canadian one. All I know is the Canadian one is less harsh. The same applies with Australia and NZ.

To us though they are completely different and an Aussie talking in NZ stands out like a sore thumb.  LOL
