I have decided I am not having kids because of my bad bloody genetics. If I had only aspergers I might consider it but I am not going to risk it with my genetics. I wonder what you guys consider about your own personal choices on not having kids.

I actually believe that if I had any kids, one of them will become the antichrist. jk Seriously, though many tell me that I would make a great father, I don't think I would be one due to my bad temper; also, nothing drives me crazier than hearing screaming or crying babies/toddlers! Just being honest.

There is a school of thought (and it has a lot of merit), that ASD's are simply evolution in action. I've never been convinced by arguments concerning poor genetics concerned with any condition. As a species we have gone through remarkable social and technological change in a remarkably small period of time. It has been observed in nature that some aspects of evolution are incredibly fast, but others are extremely slow. We are a incredibly unique species. We are quickly pushing ourselves outside of our genetic comfort zone and we have among the lowest genetic diversity of any species on the planet – having descended from just a few thousand individuals. As a species we are making the first tentative steps at exceeding the sum of our genetic legacy. I don’t think anyone at this stage can say with any certainty what is or isn’t genetically beneficial to our descendants.
The only question we can ask ourselves is: “Am I capable of raising a child, loving them unconditionally and being aware enough to give them a better quality of life than I had?” It seems to me anything else is irrelevant.
Just my personal view.

I don't know if I could put that sort of stress on my body. It has a hard enough time coping to begin with.

There is a school of thought (and it has a lot of merit), that ASD's are simply evolution in action. If it is an evolutionary development, it's probably not going to end up well since it usually makes it harder for someone to make it in the world and doesn't usually offer enough advantages to compensate. As for having kids, I will most likely adopt unless a geneticist doesn't see a problem.

I don't have any instinct to have children. I wouldn't want to bring another human being into this lunatic asylum either.

I agree- breeding is the top concern of every living thing, so when you get a population that has little to no instinct/desire to breed, you have a population that is basically a dead end mutation. However as humans, there is more to life than breeding, so don't go thinking you suck too much and go kill yourself. I have intense creativity and imagination boiling just under my surface, and a photographic/videographic memory( not a total one though where one recalls EVERYTHING, like some people do- those folks are savants of some sort, I am not). My "thinking in pictures" is very intense. There is much promise within me, if only I could crack the shell just the right way. Now and then it leaks out perfectly, but not enough to write a book or something. Also even if I was writing books and inventing things or whatever, the anxiety and depression problems get in the way, thus making it so I cannot get the ball rolling to sharing the things with others, such as getting published, getting full notice, etc. So therefore I do seem to be a dead end, but I always hold hope. I was really good at writing etc until I had to take antidepressants- anyone else had this problem?

Not to offend anyone, but I really don't want anyone to inherit Asperger's syndrome from me.

to those who hate the baby stage, you can skip that ridiculous nonsense phase by ... adopting. i mean get real, its like a movie of the week
as for making babies with AS, honestly, I think the world can be a better and more productive place if it was instead populated by a majority of AS people instead (note AS, not mentally retarded or profoundly autistic or crazy people). but of course the other alternative of just replacing humans with robots is also better in comparison to both in a way hmmm.

I don't "suffer" from Asperger's--I suffer from the world we live in. Putting another aspie into this world isn't something I want to do. Life... is like a box of chocolates - a cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that no one ever asks for, unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So, you're stuck with mostly undefinable whipped mint crap, mindlessly wolfed down when there's nothing else to eat while you're watching the game. Sure, once is a while you get a peanut butter cup or an English toffee but it's gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. In the end, you are left with nothing but broken bits filled with hardened jelly and teeth-shattering nuts, which, if you are desperate enough to eat, leaves nothing but an empty box of useless brown paper.
