There are three bare light bulbs in one room upstairs.

There are three light switches downstairs in the basement in the off position...you are standing here.

How can you know, definitively, which switch goes to which bulb.

You have no direct line of sight...and none to help you.

You have no special equipment...

All bulbs and wiring are in working order...

You have only once to go up to verify.

Zenemu, in his one sentence of humor, told me he understood the underlying concept to the answer (and so the answer).  With his hint....can anyone tell me the answer?

I don't even understand the riddle. If he flicks one switch, and goes up it's obviously the one that's on. If he flicks two, then goes up, well, how would he know, because the two that are on look the same!

Oh never mind. Put two on. Wait half an hour, turn one off, go up and feel which one of the off ones is hot. That's the one that was recently turned off. The one that is cold is the switch that remained untouched, and the one that's on is obviously the one that's glowing.

I didn't cheat on this either.

Yes...but even faster...just turn one on for a few minutes...turn it off.  Turn on another...leave it on...run upstairs.  The same logic applies...just quicker.  Very good.  Only one where I used to work got it.
